Will there be a sequel to Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles?
I’ve gotten a lot of email since Tentacles came out asking if there will be a third book. You’re fast readers!
The answer is yes, and there will probably be more books after the third with Grace and Marty and the Cryptos Island gang.
Next question: “When will it be out?”
Answer: “I flattered, but the ink is barely dry on Tentacles. All I can say is that it will be out a lot sooner than Tentacles appeared after the first book, Cryptid Hunters.”
Next question: “Do you know the title?”
Answer: “No. I generally don’t come up with the title until after I finish a book.”
Next question: “Do you know what happens?”
Answer: “Yes.”
Last question: “Will you tell me what happens?”
Answer: “I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for the third book. Sorry.”

i just got done with Cryptid Hunters and i loved it now im waiting for my school to get Tentacles, but for now im reading Thunder Cave and Sasquatch!!! By the way Sasquatch was a good read too!!
I finished tentacles just a few minutes ago and now its killing me to know what happens! i am going to be makeing up imaginary books for a long time just to settle my curiosity about what happens next. Wow, this is going to be a long wait!

it was a very good book!! i figured that there would be a 3 book because it just stoped and didn’t tell you what happened to grace, marty, luther, wolfe, marty’s parents, noah blackwood, or anybody in the story for that matter of fact and usually if it is the last book in a series it will tell you what happened to the characters after the events stoped so i figured there had to be another book… i really like grace and marty’s story it REALLY is a good book!!!!! i love reading roland smith books because they keep you going and the action never stops and you can never put the books down!!! i have almost read every single roland smith book out there and i need another to keep me satisfied!!

Tentacles was so thrilling! I love the way you weave in factual information, such as about the wildlife, with the action-packed fictional events. It’s easy to see you put a lot reseach into your books. Thanks for such a great book!
Tentacles was an awesome book!! although my favorite book you wrote is Peak which my mom is reading right now IQ is great too. I hope you write more of all your books i have never read one i did not like!!!!!!

I have read all of your young adult books and they are all amazing!!! I think Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles are the best books you have written! When I found out that you were making a sequel to Cryptid Hunters, I couldn’t wait until September. When I read Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles for I can’t put them down. I finished Tentacles in 3 days. I have both books twice. You are my favorite author. I say Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles should be made into movies. I say that everyone should read Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles.
Wow. I just finished reading “Tentacles” nearly moments ago…What can I say? No other book series comes in comparison with yours ! A while ago I dropped out of the reading loop hole, but once I disovered the sequel to Cryptid Hunters, I ended up reading Tentacles within about 4 1/2 hours straight. I’m so excited to hear that there is another book coming out ! I can hardly wait and don’t know what I will do with myself in the time being with out another one of your page-turning books. Let me just say, that i LOVE Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles. When i had first seen Cryptid Hunters, i never thought i would read it but my aunt had gotten me Tentacles and told me to read Cryptid Hunters first because she didn’t know if i read it yet. Well i had checked it out from my school library and started reading it and couldn’t put it down! it took me two days to read Cryptid Hunters and about five days to read Tentacles (i finished it about an hour ago). i was a bit surprised that Grace decided to go with Noah Blackwood, but then i figured out why she did it. i wont say anymore in case someone hasn’t read the book, reads this comment, though. When should the third book be coming out? I really want to know. Mainly because i want to know what happens to Grace, but still, WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?!?!?!?!

I can not wait until next book comes out! I really want to know what Blackwood is really like! Make sure the the book comes out before Christmas, because everybody will be wanting it for Christmas. Will be making stories of my own during the wait.
Oh my gosh i just finished Tentacles. I read Cryptid Hunters when I was in the 3rd Grade. I saw Tentacles and Immediately knew i had to have it. I read it in 2 hours. BEST book ever!!!!!!!
Roland, loved your book! I read Cryptid Hunters when it first came out at my school book fair, and whenever I was bored, I’d read it over, and over, and over, and over! Been waitin for Tentacles and a sequel for just as long! Cryptid Hunters was the book that first got me interested in Mysteries and whatnot.

my grade (5th) didn’t even read Cryptid Hunters(which i read 3 times) and they were all saying “I’m getting the Tentacles book” if you asked them what they were getting from our school bookfair(which for some reason were only having 1 this year. we used to have 2)

My 13-year-old son & I enjoyed “Cryptid Hunters” immensely, and I’ve just finished “Tentacles,” while he’s still reading it. These books are great for kids and adults alike! We think this series would make a great movie or two–I’m surprised the first one hasn’t yet been made into one. Are there plans for a movie?

Hmm, so the cryptid hunters have been to Africa and Austraila, I think that they should dock while they are near New Zealand and attempt to discover the Waitoreke while saving Grace. This is just a suggestion.

I love Cryptid hunters. I havent read Tentacles yet because I just read that you wrote it. Your books are amazing. Ive read Cryptid Hunters 3 times so far. I would have it read more but i keep losing it among the rest of my books. You are deffinitly a better writer than Lemony Snicket and tied with J.K. Rowling. The use of the Chupacabra and the coelacanth were cool i dont really know much about the coelacanth but chupacabras are always cool.

I first fell in love with Marty, Grace, Wolfe, and his merry band of pirates back in ’05 when I bought Cryptid Hunters. Cryptid Hunters was great– as soon as I finished, I knew it would be my favorite book for a long time. And I was right. It still is. So, when I found out about Tentacles, I bought it as fast as possible and finished it as soon as I could. And Tentacles definitely wasn’t a disappointment! However, it did end rather abruptly so I’m happy to see that you plan on writing a third book. And finally, I’ll end this comment by saying thank you, Mr. Smith, for providing readers such as myself with great reading material!

Gee I cant wait for the next book! I need to keep myself buisy so i dont think about how much i want to read the next book, so i bought a huge Sherlock Holmes book, but i dont think that will keep me buisy enough. I absulutly love Wolfe, hes my fave character! I ended up reasing tentacles before crytid hunters, and when i found out that they used to think grace was martys twin, i litaraly slapped myself! KEEP RIGHTING AWESOME BOOKS!

I just finished Tentacles, great thriller and sequel to Cryptid Hunters, and when I finished I was nearly jumping out of my seat. It was a great book, fast-paced thriller, and the best cliffhanger I have and will ever read or see. TENTACLES ROCKS!!!

I LOVED cryptid hunters and tentcles. They make my top ten in my LONG list of books i have read this year. It’s right under Eclipse in the twilight saga. My teacher recommened it to me and i read them right after I’ve finished Breaking dawn. I had been thinking after the four books in the twilight saga there can’t be a better book. I was so close to being wrong. I couldn’t put it down one night i fell asleep after reading it for at least two hours (I had had a really tiring day). I’m waiting unpatiently for the third book which i will buy the first day it comes out as long as the second I.Q book. GO ROLAND SMITH!!!!!!
OMG! I found Cryptid Hunters in my attic while I was going thru old books, and I started the first chapter and couldn’t put it down! I had to force myself to stop reading at 11 at night and finished early the next morning! I’m hoping to get Tentacles soon, otherwise I don’t know WHAT I’ll do!

I personally not a big reader. But when I checked out Tentalcles at my school library I was hooked. I suggest it to everyone! Then I checked out Elephant Run and once again I was hooked! Roland Smith books are like the only books I read now! Thanks Roland!!!

This one of the best series I have ever read I just finished tentacles which I though was awesome and let me say their are few books that leaves me worried for the characters and these do.

I loved Cryptid Hunters and thought that it was great. Then I read Tentacles and thought Cryptid Hunters stunk compared to Tentacles because Tentacles is such a great book. They are both great. Do you have any idea when the third book is coming out? A lot of people would love to know so they can get their hands on a copy before they get sold out (which we all know is going to happen). I wasn’t a big reader but Tentacles got me snagged on your books (no pun intended).

Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles are 2 of my most favorite books in the WORLD all I can think about at school is the next book and I’m so into cryptids and you are a great author some titles I’ve thought of seem pretty good like Feater Storm about the mothman or Prints about bigfoot for more Cryptid books I hope you like the ideas maybe they could be in one of the books

I bought Tentacles at a sholastic book fair at my school not even knowing there was a first book. So I read it and not until a few days ago did I check out Cryptid Hunters at my school library. So I finished that book in two days then went back to Tentacles. I feel so stupid becaus I had totally forgotten that Theo was Ted. I think Ted would have to be my fav. charcter then Luther. Anyway can’t WAIT for the 3rd book!!

I finished cryptid hunters and it left my mind in a whirl. I was always thinking, what will happen next? Then my librarian (mrs. Svec) told me there was another book. I ran to the book shelf she directed me to. I finished it in 1 day. It was the best book ive read in a long time. And thats saying something, because i am the type of person that if u give me a book, i will devour it. haha, please come out with book #3 soon. and i think u should make like 12 or more books in the series… I cant stop thinking about what will happen… i guess i will have to make up my own ending… for now.

I realy do not understand how you can think of such a good plot, and tie in little things in there such as all the stories within the one story.For example:one is how Wolfe got the Island and another is the missing grandma(I think that will be important in future books). I really like how Grace is going to blackwoods to find out more about her family but i was disapointed when the book ended and i thought they lost but no you having another book. The only problom was i did not get a chance to read cryptid hunters because i did not relize tentacles was a sequal until after i bought it. But the page in the begining of tentacles that gave descriptions of all the characters was very helpful to help me figure out what was going on.

Now I usually don’t like reading, but I LOVE your books. I bought cryptid hunters back in fifth grade, and didn’t read it til two years later. My teacher told the class to read an independent book after we finish our work, so I picked a book off my book shelf. One day while I was on the bus, I decided to read the book. I could not BELIEVE what I had been missing! I LOVED the book, I told my best friend and now she loves it too! Then, a few months later I went to a book fair with my best friend, and we found your tentacles book! There was a sequel me and my best friend were so psyched! I CAN’T wait until the next book comes out!!!

Tentacles came out this school year. The third book will not be out for quiet awhile. I’m glad you and your mom enjoyed it and I hope you get a chance to read some of my other novels while you’re waiting.

I can’t wait for the next one! I just finished Cryptid Hunters and I am getting Tentacles soon. I know t will be great because Luther is joining the gang and he and Marty are partners in crime, so I am infering that there will be a little, I mean a lot of mayhem aboard the Coelacanth. I read Cryptid Hunters when it came out and I just finished Tentacles two days ago. I couldn’t bring myself to put either of the two down and I now I will be rereading Cryptid Hunters to fill in some gaps that I forgot while reading Tentacles. Only issue I had was that I was hoping Tentacles would focus on a new cryptid. There were small references to a kraken and with no kraken, the giant squid getting the short end of the stick, and the dinosaurs still the top priority I was a tiny bit dissapointed. Then again, the need to focus on the dinosaurs as being the find of the century is certainly necessary, but I just hope that a new cryptid appears in book three and that the whole series doesn’t become a back and forth for the dinosaurs with Noah and Wolfe.
But overall I really loved the books! You have no idea how anxiously I’m waiting for the third book!
There are a lot of issues to resolve before Wolfe can go off and look for new cryptids. Some of these problems will be resolved in the third book.

Read Cryptid Hunters so many times I lost count. Easily the best book I have ever read. My friend told me about Tentacles and I read that in two days and now I have nothing to read for the rest of the summer. Both awesome book CANNOT wait till the third one comes out.

I actually got into cryptid hunters in the seventh grade grade and when I found out you were coming to talk to us I was pretty excited, and when I found out you had a second book I literally went to the store and bought it, no questions asked. Now i’m not really a huge reader more of a sports guy, but your series of cryptid hunters just makes you want to read more and has actually made me want to become a cryptozoologist when i get older, kinda funny but I want a thrill in my life just how you were able to travel the world. Anyway great job on the series and the 2nd book, but i actually wanted to know if they are going to make your book a movie??

I just finished Tentacles and it was so gooooooooooood! Sadly while i was leaving school i read it down the hallway and tripped! It was worth the fall though to finish the book.

I finished the tentacles book in one day. at first i was a little skeptical on the first book but after i read the first chapter i was glued to the book. honestly i would compare this to the harry potter series or even better! i also have a question for you: do you think that a movie of your books will ever get published? I love the Cryptid hunters and tentacles books! i just saw them in my school libary the 4th page of cryptid hunters hooked me into any other book related to it! ive been learning cryptids and having i great little imagination of the dinosaurs and Butch in my head! Ok I have read the last lobo, Jaguar, jacks run, zachs lie, big foot, tentacles, cryptic hunters, I,Q, and elephant run, peak if there are many more I have probably read them and forgot their names but I can’t find thunder cave any where. I like other authors, like Louisa mae alcott, Lewis lowry, Louis sachar, Gary paulsen, Henry mazer, etc. but you are the best it only takes me about 1 day to read 2 books I read whatever is under “smith” in two libraries from schools and what I find in a books
stores it doesn’t matter the cost I buy them. I am running out though, I need to look harder. My favorites are tied between the Jaguar series and the cryptic hunters series, I also like how you tied jack Lansa when he came back from the Jaguar preserve helping his father, into tentacles it kinda showed the time period and how two adventures tied together even if it was only 4 pages long. Very clever. I don’t even read much but whenever I see one of your books I pick it up and read it cover to cover.
Right now tentacles is in my hand because I am finishing the series…for the seventh time.

I read Tentacles in about three days and it was just as good as the first. My students are currently reading Jack’s Run in class and they cannot wait to see how it ends. I just finished Tentacles last night, and I can’t believe you left us there!! I am counting the days til a sequel comes out. Wolfe needs to get Grace back! I can hope. hello! it has been quite long since i made a comment! but i would like to say that i have sent you an email and i hope you get it and this message, but, i’m a slow reader but only to understand how things are going in the book, and i am glad i read slow on the cryptid hunters series, i didnt want it to end. i read more then 20 books a year and my mother reads about 160 a year! but only because she’s a fast reader, understands more quickly, and just loves to read, i just want to ask if you now what your title to the third book of cryptid hunters series is? i have been waiting for about 2 and a half years for it to come out. sorry about the questions on bottom!

I just got done reading both cryptid hunters and tentacles and i loved them cant wait tell the sequel comes out.
Boy did i love both tentacles and cryptid hunters they kept me reading the entire time i didnt want to put the book down i really loved them
hey i just finished tentacles a few seconds ago and i loved it! so when do you think the sequal will come out? tell us ahead of time! and also in the sequal you should have it where wolfe is looking for the loch ness monster and he runs into noah and grace in scotland because noah is building an international ark in scotland and they battle it out for the cryptid and garce! also what does wolfe do with the cryptids once he catches them i mean is he gonna open a cryptid zoo cause that would be epic! so if you do take my ideas and use some of them i would be greatful but if not you could right a 4th book and use them then or you could throw them away either way i am just sayit would be cool so cant wait for the sequal and hope to see my ideas in there!

I just finished reading Cryptid Hunters for the second time and fall in love with it more and more each time I read it. I have Tentacles coming in the mail and am looking forward to continuing the quest of the Cryptos crew. Hopefully the third book will be just as good, and cone out soon! By the way, are there any plans for a movie production on the series. I think it would make a great movie and I would definitely see it in theaters and buy the DVD. Thank you for these books(and hopeful movies).

Can you tell us the cryptid Wolfe and his friends will be pursuing in the third book? I personally suspect Bigfoot/Sasquatch.
I think the majority of the third book is trying to reunite with Grace while searching for the Yeren in China. After a close rescue, the Cryptos gang manage to capture a live Yeren, despite letting Blackwood, Grace and the babies get away.
In the fourth book, I think Wolfe will try to unravel the mysteries behind Blackwood’s creation, El Chupacabre. In the process, the Cryptos gang will resque Grace and the now juvenile baby dinosaurs, and expose Noah Blackwood for the fraud he is, with the help of Ana’s research.
I hope you consider my idea for the fouth book, as you are probably just about done with the third. Thanks

I love Roland Smiths books! I was so relieved when I heard there was another book coming out due to the cliffhanger ending. I have always been a bookworm but my little sister has never really liked reading until I introduced her to Roland Smith books. She now loves reading!(Thank you Roland!)I’ve read Elephant Run several times over. I’ve read Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles twice each. I’ve read Cryptid Hunters and Tentacles too many times to count! I finally convinced my mom and brother to read the series. My mom read both books in a few days and my brother is in the middle of Cryptid Hunters right now. I wish book 3 would come out October or November this year since there are four other books I’ve been waiting for coming out in that time frame. I don’t want to wait ANOTHER year!

Yep I do a fair amount of research. In fact, sometimes it takes me twice as long to do the research than it does to write the book.
I grew up in Oregon, which is Big Foot country. So I guess you could say that I’ve been interested in cryptids my whole life. Although, I’ve never actually seen a cryptid.

I love Tentacles. I didn’t think Cryptid Hunters was as exciting as tentacles. Honestly, I don’t think I needed to read Cryptid Hunters, because it explained what happened there in Tentacles. So the ending was anti-climactic for me. Still is a great book. Tentacles is one of my favorite books of all time, but I’m only 11. I can’t wait for the 3rd one to come out in 2012!
I usually am very hard to please when I read a book. This saciated my expectations. It is very good. There are adventures followed by evil, followed by discoveries. I can not wait for the 3rd book. It got me hooked quickly, and kept me that way. Roland, you have a gift!

Hey!! I loved your book. Though i made the mistake of reading tentacles first so you can imagine how confused i was… but then i got the criptid hunters from the library and i was great. My 10yr old daughter Katelyn, brought Cryptid Hunters home from the school library. From the first day she was raving about how I needed to read it, so I did and I couldn’t put it down. I told her she needed to see if there was a sequel, after reading this site I know there is and she is going to look for Tentacles tomorrow! Dear Roland, I am a big fan of your works of literature. I have read tentacles 20 times (no joke it is that good)I’ve got some titles for the book I want to throw at you, journalists(a.k.a bloggers) you can say what you want to about it.
My first idea is Noah’s Lair or Noah’s Ark(That is if it has a lot to do with Grace and Noah)
My second idea is Hundreds of Eyes or The Dragon’s Eyes (relating to the dragonspy for both names but to Noah’s Spies for only the first idea)

Man, I have to say that Cryptid Hunters was by far my most favorite book I have EVER read! I am 11 years old, and just love your books, and can’t stop reading them! If there will be a sequel to Cryptid Hunters, then I can’t wait! I haven’t read Tentacles yet because I all of them are already taken at Public Libraries!
I just want to say your books are wonderful, and just like what mike.s says if you make a movie Wolfe should be Hugh Laurie. Anyway all of your books are great and I love all of them. Although it’s kinda funny when my teachers look at me when I’m reading your books because the librarian made them a 5th grade reading level when I’m in gifted along with 7th grade… I can say one more thing… I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE READING LEVEL!!! I will always love your books.

My teacher had us read the first one in class, then for a lot of us it took off from there, so glad there will be a third. I read the second one in two hours, then read it again but slower. Love the Series!
I just got done reading cryptid hunters for a school project and I can honestly say this book is up there in one of my favorite next to the alex rider series and the ice mark chronicles. I thought that by the way it ended there was gonna be a second book and I am very excited to know there is one. I cant wait to buy it and add it to my collection of favorites if it is anywhere near as good as the first..

I started to read the books about a week ago. They are the one of the most exciting and interesting books i have ever read. Along with the Hunger Games and the Percy Jackson books. Iv read some of your other books like iq. But the Cryptid Hunters is the best i hope the third book comes out some time in 2012 and i really would like you to make a movie on the books it would be awesome. Plus i think the titles should be called saving grace if that is what the books is about.

I thank you very much for making the cryptid hunters series.I am home schooled and I read very fast, sometimes I used to read whole books during the night.I read Cryptid Hunters last year and I recently read tentacles. It took me just two days, and a few hours during the night. I must say, I really had a hard time putting it down to go take out the garbage.I was hoping you might use one of my ideas for an invention that could be made by Ted and Marty. I wear contacts so I got the idea of a lens just like a contact lens that works like a video camera and sends everything the user sees back to a computer screen. I hope you use my idea, but anyway I wish you good luck in your next cryptid books. I will definitely get my hands on them as soon as possible.

You didn’t really say what the title would be you just said, “At this point that’s the title. We’ll have to see if it sticks.” I understand if you don’t want to tell the world what you plan on the title to be, just saying you didn’t specify. I’ve got some more ideas if you want them just say so.

Cryptid Hunters is one of my all time favorite books ever since I read it back in ’05 and I was caught completed off gaurd when I saw that Cryptid Hunters had a sequl back in ’09 but now that I acually know that there will be a book 3, the 3 years of waiting haven’t been too late. Everytime I finish a book I always check for any news =P

I read the Cryptid Hunters series a long time ago and I’m going to read it again because I forget some of the things that happened in those books. I’ve also read The Hunger Games, but I gotta say, the Cryptid Hunters series is my all time favorite! Keep up the good work Mr. Smith!

Yes! I just finished Cryptid Hunters last night for the 6th time. Getting ready to read Tentacles for the 3rd time. I can’t wait for the third book to come out. You are THE BEST AUTHOR EVER!!! I also think you should write another book to Zach’s Lie and Jack’s Run, i’m wondring if he ever gets to see Cat again or not and I really like Sam.

In my first list of title ideas I totally forgot about the mokele-mbembe hatchlings. Some good ideas for them and the trouble that the gang could have makes this idea both funny and true.

Did you have a big laugh? I know I did when I heard that it made me think of Tentacles.Lets hope that they will never invent a scratch and sniff for that. I will feel bad to whoever has to take care of them at Noah’s Ark.
Another thing that I didn’t cover were the things in Rose’s trunk or Grace’s grandmother/Noah’s wife.
What about “Noah’s Past” or better yet “Blackwood’s Past”.
I have a feeling that Luther will be in the third one also. He’s too valuable a character to loose. He makes things funny when things look bleak.
I’ve got some ideas to what the cover should look like. For “Blackwood’s Past” it should be Rose’s trunk. For “Dragon’s Eyes” or “Hundreds of Eyes” a pair of Dragonfly eyes
I feel sorry for you, so many loose ends to tie up to make sure the fans are happy and yet the fans are bugging you to ask for it to come faster. To anyone who reads these and is about to ask him to write faster I’ve got one thing to say to you…..

LOL!!!!!!! I think I figured out why Iv’e read this book more than 20 times! They are so funny! It has kept me from getting bored with it. I love how you ended Cryptid Hunters with Grace asking about what Marty had fed her in the Congo. “Green eggs and mamba” HILARIOUS!I also LOVE how you named chapter 6 in Tentacles Bo Voyage. That was very clever AND FUNNY.I have to say that that chapter is my absolute favorite! That and “One and Two” if they were both girls having them named Grace and Luther! I was on the floor laughing after I read that!!!
That is the reason this series is way better than the “Hunger Games Series” No offence to Suzanne Collins or any Hunger Games fans, it just needs a litte humor brighten it up a bit.
To make it more interesting why don’t you add in some romance,other than Wolfe and Laurel. Maybe Grace should fall in love while she is at Noah’s place, or maybe Marty, NO I KNOW!!! Make Luther fall in love and to a hottie too. That would be ROLLING ON THE FLOOR FUNNY!!!!!!
I bet that would be a lot of fun making Marty gelous that Luther got the cute one. A girl could hope…………….. I would like going out with Luther myself. Please PLEASE NAME HER Abigail (Abi for short) if you do give him a girlfriend that would be SO AWESOME!!!!!! It could be the recognition you give me for my title ideas “if it sticks”. I’m sorry that I write a lot it is such fun to give you my ideas though. Its so easy to come up with ideas for you stories, I just can’t get enough ideas to gather together to make my own. I hope to be joining the writing world soon I’m sure it isn’t all that easy for a 13 almost 14 year old to write some big books for people in her age group.
