North Hampton School. New Hampshire
I was at North Hampton today with librarian Linda D. Sherouse speaking to a group of absolutely wonderful K thru 8 students after a restful night at “Lamie’s Inn” and a great meal in their attatched restaurant.
(If you ever find yourself in this part of New England stop by for a meal, or spend the night. The rooms have keys. I can’t remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that used actual keys).
This afternoon Linda and I drove to Nashua where I’m speaking tomorrow.
The rain is gone and the sun is shining in New Hampshire again.

The best school ever! (Especially the 5th graders!)
Hi. I’m a student at North Hampton school, and I loved you presentation/lecture/visitation thingy. I’m an eighth grader (I answered your question “What are cryptids?”, though you probably don’t remember…) and I love writing. I love to type and write free-hand on my own time, and at the moment I’m working on a couple of stories that I’d love to get finished. Unfortunately, I have a nasty habit of never finishing anything I start. I go into it full-wind, but then it just sort of dies down and I lose interest. It stinks, but once that happens, I just can’t find the will to write about that lost topic anymore…
Since I love writing, I was really excited when I found out you were coming to our school. I understood a lot of the stuff you were saying (About writers block and drafts and criticism), and I was really eager to heart what you had to say about writing novels. It seems like a daunting task, but I know that it’s something I’d like to accomplish someday. I’m not saying I plan to have bunches of different books circulating the world like you, but I do have a story that I’m working on that I’d love to finish someday and try to get published.
I hate getting writers block, and I also have issues with criticism (which I know I have to get over). I am a perfectionist when it comes to my writing (It’s not a fun quality to have), but whenever I hand over my writing to peers, I get very protective. My pieces are my babies, and I hate having them criticized, wven when I know I need that criticism in order to get better. It’s something I need to work on, but I’ll get there… Eventually…
Anyway, I just wanted a chance to actually get to talk to a live author (Even though technically I’m just leaving a comment on your blog…), I’ve never gotten to before, and it’s exciting to me, since I love writing so much. I don’t get a chance to meet that many people who are as into writing as I am, and who could be more into it than an author?
Someday I hope to have a book published like you do. Though I doubt I’ll finish it in only three weeks (Honestly, how on earth did you do that?), but hopefully I’ll finish my story in less than 10 years… I hope…
Well, I guess this is good-bye. Sorry for ranting on and on, but like I said, I wanted a chance to talk (E-mail) an author, so this opportunity was gold. Bye!

Hi Megan, you can certainly become an author like me…probably better than me. All you have to do is sit down and practice writing everyday.
